At JOMO, mental health isn’t just a checkbox it’s one of the foundations we built this brand on. As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, we sat down with our founders, Liv and Bella, to talk about how their personal experiences have shaped JOMO, why sexual wellness matters more than we talk about, and what they hope people take away from our mission this month and beyond.
What role has mental health played in shaping the JOMO brand and products?
Liv:
The brand was started off the back of struggles we both went through, so mental health was always a big priority. We wanted to create something that wasn’t just a product, but something with a holistic approach. To feel good on the outside, you have to start from within.
Bella:
Everyone has something that shapes them and affects their mental health it plays into everyday life. So, creating JOMO was about building a safe, inclusive space, and making products that genuinely work and support people’s wellbeing.
Why do you believe sexual wellness is such an important but overlooked part of mental health?
Liv:
It can impact so much, your relationships with others and yourself. But because of the stigma around it, we don’t talk about it enough. That silence can affect how we feel day to day.
Bella:
Sex releases dopamine and endorphins. It should be part of our overall mental wellbeing. But often, it’s treated as separate, or taboo and it shouldn’t be.
How do you personally practise self-care when you’re struggling with mental health?
Liv:
I try to take time out and avoid anything I know isn’t good for me. I slow things down, and I make sure I’m surrounded by the right people.
Bella:
For me, it’s about realising when to pause to stop, breathe, and really acknowledge the present moment.
What advice would you give to someone who feels too embarrassed to talk about their intimate health?
Liv:
Just remember you’re not alone. Whatever you’re going through, we’ve probably all been there. Prioritising your health should never feel shameful. You don’t have to suffer in silence.
Bella:
Everyone has intimate moments, and someone else out there is going through something similar. Nothing should be shameful.
What do you hope people take away from JOMO’s mission this Mental Health Awareness Month?
Liv:
I just want everyone to feel good and know that even when things feel hard or shit, they can get better. But you have to prioritise yourself even if that means stepping back and taking time for you.
Bella:
That sex is great and we should all be having it! Celebrate yourself.
This month and every month JOMO is here to remind you: pleasure is a part of wellness, and your body, your mind, and your needs deserve to be cared for without shame.
