What Motherhood Has Taught Us: Words from the JOMO Community

There’s no guidebook for motherhood. It’s messy, magical, overwhelming, and beautiful all at once. So, we turned to the JOMO community and asked: What have you learnt since becoming a mother?

The responses were raw, moving, and deeply honest. A testament to the strength, softness, and self-discovery that motherhood brings. Here are some of our favourites.

Rediscovering Our Strength

“Motherhood made me realise how strong I really am.”

“I never knew I could feel so confident and unsure at the same time. Motherhood made me embrace both.”

Becoming a mother often pushes us beyond what we thought were our limits, physically, emotionally, and mentally. These stories remind us that strength doesn’t always look like having it together. Sometimes, it’s simply continuing to show up.

A Shift in Perspective

“My perspective shifted entirely. The things I used to stress about now seem so small compared to what really matters.”

Motherhood changes how we see the world. What once felt urgent fades into the background, replaced by the deeper, quieter clarity of what truly matters.

Redefining Love

“Before kids, I thought I knew what love was. Now, I understand it’s layered, messy, exhausting, and yet the most beautiful thing.”

Love, in the context of motherhood, becomes an act of devotion. It’s in the late nights, the deep patience, the way you hold space for another little human, even when you feel like you have nothing left to give.

Letting Go & Letting In

“It deepened every relationship in my life. Some grew stronger, others fell away. But I became clearer on what I needed and deserved.”

Motherhood becomes a mirror, reflecting back our own needs, boundaries, and values. It’s a shedding of what no longer serves, and a stepping into who we are becoming.

Embracing Our Bodies

“Motherhood changed the way I see myself. I stopped being so critical and started appreciating my body for its power, not just its appearance.”

Our bodies carry us through so much and for many, motherhood becomes the beginning of a more compassionate, awe-filled relationship with our physical selves.

The Power of Presence

“Being a mother taught me patience, vulnerability, and the power of showing up even when I feel like I have nothing left to give.”

At JOMO, we believe in celebrating presence over perfection. These stories remind us that motherhood isn’t about doing it all, it’s about showing up in the ways that count.

To all the mothers in our community: we see you, we honour you, and we thank you for sharing your truth with us.

Love,

JOMO
