You know when you wake up, reach for your phone with one eye still closed, and somehow within four minutes you’ve seen breaking news, a stranger’s flawless skincare routine, your ex looking suspiciously happy on holiday, and a 22 year old millionaire explaining the “simple” morning habits that changed their life?
Exhausting. And you haven’t even brushed your teeth yet.
Doomscrolling has quietly become the modern morning ritual. Before water. Before daylight. Before we’ve fully processed the fact we’re conscious again. We tell ourselves we’re just checking one thing, but suddenly twenty minutes have disappeared and somehow the vibe of the entire day feels… slightly off. A little anxious. A little overstimulated. Weirdly behind in life before 9am.
So here’s a different idea. A ten minute morning ritual that doesn’t require waking up at 5am, drinking celery juice, or pretending you enjoy meditation apps telling you to “release what no longer serves you.”
Just ten simple minutes that actually make mornings feel softer, calmer, and a little bit more like yours.
The first part is painfully simple. Don’t touch your phone immediately. Not forever. We’re not asking you to become someone who keeps their phone in another room and journals by candlelight. Just give yourself a minute. Lie there. Stretch. Look out the window. Think about breakfast. Let your brain wake up without immediately downloading the entire internet into your nervous system.
Then make your morning drink and make it feel mildly luxurious. We’re not saying your coffee needs latte art or your matcha needs to be whisked by hand in a ceramic bowl you bought in Kyoto. But there’s something oddly grounding about doing one small thing slowly before the world starts demanding your attention. Boil the kettle. Make the coffee. Sit down for five minutes instead of carrying it around while replying to messages and mentally building tomorrow’s to do list.
After that, move your body in a way that feels human. Not punishing. Not performative. Just… movement. Stretch while your coffee cools. Put music on and wander around the kitchen pretending you’re in a very low budget music video. Walk outside for five minutes. Your body doesn’t always need a full transformation plan before breakfast. Sometimes it just needs a reminder that you actually live inside it.
And finally, spend a couple of minutes doing something that is purely for you. Not productive. Not monetised. Not something designed to make you a “better version” of yourself by lunchtime. Read a few pages of a book. Put on skincare slowly instead of aggressively multitasking through it. Sit in the sun. Wear perfume for no reason. Journal badly. Romanticise your eggs on toast. Tiny rituals sound dramatic until you realise they’re often the only moments in the day that belong entirely to you.
That’s the funny thing about mornings. The first ten minutes don’t seem important until you notice how much they shape everything that comes after. Starting the day with chaos, comparison and accidental emotional damage via social media isn’t exactly setting the tone for inner peace.
Very JOMO coded, if you ask us.
Because protecting your peace doesn’t have to look like deleting every app, moving to the countryside, and becoming deeply interested in sourdough. Sometimes it’s just choosing your own brain before everyone else’s opinions, routines, updates, aesthetics and hot takes get there first.
Your phone will still be there in ten minutes.
And trust us, whatever happened on Instagram can wait until after coffee.
